Darwin's Weyr
More than 1000 Turns ago, Xanadu Weyr was created. It was the perfect setting for a weyr, the perfect place, with the perfect riders. The seventh weyr was the result of lnog Turns of hard work, but it was worth it. With Xanadu Weyr, Pern flourished for 600 Turns.
Then came the Dust. A meteor barely missed Pern, but it passed close enough for a chunk of it to break off and blaze a course towards Pern. It never made it past the inner atmosphere, but for Turns afterward, dust particles, simply called Dust, drifted down from space, the meteor's revenge for being burned away. They settled on everything. The Dust turned out to contain a virus. The virus took at least 100 turns to have any effect, not showing up until Telgar Weyr's queen, Tohenath, clutched.
The clutch contained 49 eggs, a shocking event in itself. It contained three gold eggs as well, another surprising factor.
But that turned out to be the least of the surprises this clutch would give Pern.
The three gold eggs did not hatch golden queens. Out of the shells came a light, almost white, dragon, a light red dragon, and a startlingly pink dragon. These would come to be called Opal, Rudy, and Pink. These dragons started a revolution, and the onlyu thing that could explain the new colors was Dust.
From these oddly-colored queens hatched more strange colors. Rust, Black, and Red dragons emerged, seeming to have the same qualities as bronzes. Another female dragon came to be: Silvers. These did not clutch. Silvers and Ices emerged as more female dragons. Frosts and Brasses took the place of Browns. Fool's Golds and Lavenders were the equivalent of Greens, and Oranges replaced Blues. Teals seemed to be near the equivalent of Whites, though more common.
These colors flourished, and soon the weyr was renamed Darwin's Weyr, after the man who named and recorded each new color. After a period of 600 Turns, the original Golds, Bronzes, Browns, Blues, and Geens died out, completely replaced by the New-Age colors.
Now, the new age colors rule Darwin's Weyr. Faranth only knows if anything else will happen to Pern's dragons.
News:
Opal Rhasnth rose and was flown by black Schwarzth, ridden by C'oum. Making C'oum the Weyrleader of Darwin. Candidates are being Searched now! Opal Rhasnth has started clutching! So far, three eggs now grace Darwin's Hatching sands. How many will she clutch? Will there be a gold egg?
There is a Gather at Darwin's Hold. The Trader Caravan is only a day away from reaching the Weyr.
