Sostosian turned in his hammock. There were too many people near him. He could handle sleeping on the boats when so many people were around because they weren't so much of strangers to him, but Sostosian didn't know his fellow candidates. He'd only just become a candidate, and now he had to spend half of his time sitting around twiddling his thumbs. Only two things made him sleep comfortably at night, sex and the sea, and Sostosian was currently being denied both of those things. Frankly, he knew it wasn't hard to seduce people when they were upset as much as the Weyr seemed to be, but he didn't want to meet his fellow candidates by seducing them when it was easy.
Another toss in the hammock, and Sostosian had thrown himself smack onto the stone floor of the barracks, cracking his wrist as he swore to himself under his breath. He kicked the hammock that was now swinging above him, practically growling at the thing before climbing up and throwing on a pair of pants. As soon as he hit the hallway, the swearing only got louder. Sostosian simply wasn't the type to wake up well, not that anyone truly was after they'd just busted themselves up on the floor. He was bleeding lightly on his knees and elbows, and his right palm was scraped, but it was nothing. He'd experienced worse and he wasn't about to go bother the healers over a smidgen of blood.
Jakesie, his small pup, was instantly following him out the door, and he realized she'd probably have to go outside. He picked her up, scratching her under the chin as he took her out into the Weyrbowl, the best he truly could do, before running to the kitchens for a glass of klah. There wasn't much around, but there wasn't anyone to stop him from making it himself at midnight, before he walked with pup under one arm, and cup in the other hand.
He yawned only after taking a swig of the cinnamon-scented wonderful, before sitting down in the hallway that separated the boys and girls sides of the barracks. Hopefully someone else was having as much trouble sleeping as he was.
He set Jakesie down, giving her a lick of klah off of his finger as he started to talk to her, as he always did, despite the fact that there were sleeping people all around him. "I hope rooming gets sorted out better soon here. Bunking with everybody and their neighbors is going to make me snappier than a tunnelsnake if this klah situation doesn't get sorted out." He laughed as the puppy just growled and nibbled on his hand. As usual, she didn't care what time of day it was, and cared even less what he was saying. She just wanted to play.
Sostosian smiled as he leaned over, waving his hand in front of her face, clenching his fingers as he swatted at her muzzle playfully. She growled as she pounced her front legs down, attempting to chew on him again as he waved his hand about on the floor before laughing. The little black canine pulled back her ears before she started howling though, and Sostosian's face fell as he went to grab for her muzzle, the canine simply jerking away, still assuming they were playing, as she howled and barked up a storm.
"Jakesie! SHH! There's people sleeping... hey! Shove it, mutt!" but of course, Sostosian was naturally loud, and apparently he'd felt the need to have a shouting match with Jakesie to try and shut her up...which didn't appear to be working. [/blockquote]

Inrika usually liked nights. When the skies were full with stars that kindly shared their beautiful light with people below, she would enjoy staying up whole night or when the time grew cold, she would curl under the warm blankets and sleep peacefully. But lately, 'usually' didn't apply to anything that was going on in Canaulia Weyr. And so, she was hating the night more than the day for it was even more boring and she had nearly no other option than to stay in the room that she shared with two other girls. Her arm used to ache more at the night, too, and she was so tired of sleeping mostly on one side so to not hurt it more.
Tonight seemed worse than usually but she had been prepared for that. Whole day she had lazied around and there were just too many unused energy left in her to sleep. So, she hadn't even tried, staying dressed as she was and sitting on the edge of bed, staring at the floor rather moodily. Other two girls were sound asleep and she envied them for that - being able to work, even if it was hard and annoying, but at least doing something and being able to sleep afterwards. She couldn't wait until the cast would be taken off. Though, part of her knew very well that she would get annoyed and tired of working very soon, longing for these free days again. But that simply was the way she thought and lived.
Candidate sat up straighter when thought she heard some noise. It was second time tonight, not with too big gap between the noises. For first time, she had discarded it as someone going to the candidate chambers to sleep after some night walk, though, who would want to wander around the destroyed Weyr and poisoned outside. Now she grew curious, but not enough to go and actually look who or what it was. And then she heard a barking and her bad mood was swished away almost on the instant. An animal! She could go and play with it, maybe even befriend it's owner, for surely, it wasn't in here alone.
Quietly, though, there wasn't much use of being silent after all the noise canine had made, Inrika got up and went out of the room. She didn't have to go far - in the hallway she found both troublemakers - a boy she had seen around somewhere, though, didn't recall his name and a black canine. The animal certainly attracted her attention more than it's owner and she grinned happily. "Oooh, aren't you a little, cute noise maker!" she cooed softly, sitting down on the opposite of the young man, not caring the least that her dark dress could get wrinkled, after all it was one of her simplest anyway. "Come here, come here. You're Jakesie, right, darling?" she questioned, remembering how the man had called the pet when trying to silence her. She was not shy about speaking to the animal at all, knowing that they liked such attention.

Sostosian narrowed his eyes. He leaned forward lips pursed together tight as he ran his tired brown eyes over her. She was pretty, not exceptionally gorgeous, but fairly appealing on the eyes. When she sat down, playing with his dog, Sostosian’s eyes went to her chest in a flawless sweep. He took a sip of his klah before grinning in obvious approval.
Jakesie, of course, pretended not to like her at all. The pup yapped louder, going ballistic and attempting to gnaw on Inrika’s clothes. Sostosian was thankful for the distraction. As he took another sip of his cinnamon addiction, the former fisherman was instantly calm. Jakesie could bark like that all night if she kept delivering beauties right into his presence, and one’s not paying attention to him no less. Ha, ignoring him was a bad thing to do – as he never ignored others so long as they were eyecatching.
Sostosian, despite his wandering eyes, never seemed to miss a beat regarding anything. As soon as Inrika was done cooing and asking questions to the canine, who of course was answering in a variety of high pitch snaps, Sostosian popped up with the intent of bringing full awareness of the girl onto himself. “Yeah, that’s my Jakesie. I’m Sostosian, and it’s a pleasure to meet another person who can appreciate canines.” He beamed a smile at her flirtatiously as he held out the cup to her, only then noticing that her arm was bandaged at all. He’d been too busy looking somewhere beneath her neck. “Klah? Not that I’m sure Jakesie won’t happily keep you awake.” Not that I wouldn’t also happily keep you awake, in any way I could manage.. Sostosian, indeed, was lucky tonight. Inrika despite her flirtatious attitude didn't like to be looked at as possible bed partner in first, second and every other meeting unless she liked you. Strangely, these looks she received from men didn't raise her self esteem but make her feel dirty and those who were at fault usually got punished, either with her sharp tongue or punch on arm, in the best case. But as the girl was too busy with speaking with animal, she did not notice any of the looks he was giving her until he spoke.
She nearly laughed when he ampathized 'my'. As if it hadn't been obvious. But then again, his tries to start a conversation that would last more than a minute and reasons for that were just as obvious. But he wasn't bad. Girl glanced at him but as soon as he seemed to look up to her, not the canine, averted her gaze . No, not bad at all. Some distraction would do her good - maybe he would make these few next weeks shorter while she was without right arm.
"Nice to mee you, Sostosian," she smiled sweetly at him, showing that she truly meant that. "My name is Inrika. And I love all animals, especially canines. And Jakesie is simply adorable." For a moment, she played with the dog again before looking back at him. "Is it hard to take care after her, now with all the danger? Or she just loves her nice owner so much that never leaves him?" Her question was quite out of curiosity for she had not seen many pets around her, assuming most of them probably had died during eruption. Only because of that, she was glad she had never owned a pet before. Losing it and Segan could have been too much of pain.
At his offer, she shook head quickly. "Thank you but no. I already can't sleep at all." It was the annoying truth but suddenly it didn't seem so bad anymore. If not, she wouldn't have met Sostosian and the idea of spending time with him (Or rather, with his adorable canine) seemed more and more appealing to her: "Not that I mind it so much anymore."
OO C: I apologize for the crapiness of crap. Dx
