Welcome everyone to the Grand Opening of Weary Wings!
We are set at the start of the fifth pass, in a hidden weyr located on the western Continent. The Senior Queen is due to rise as soon as we have enough candidates and eligible male dragons.
Basic History of Aura Weyr Set in 5th Pass Pern:
Come join Us!
Pern was founded with the best of intentions. Colonists form many different planets making the fifteen year one way journey in the hopes of ‘A better Life’. Unfortunately, Fate had other things in store for them. It was only a few short years after Landing that their new world came under attack by ‘Thread’, A voracious, thoughtless being that fell from space intent of devouring all organic material. It was brought into the path of Pern by the Red-Star, a wandering planet that swung in a wide orbit around Rukbat, the local star.
Using their vast knowledge of Genetic manipulation the new inhabitants of Pern took the native Dragonet, a small four legged, two winged creature, capable of forming an empathic bond with others at hatching, and of breathing fire after chewing a special phosphine bearing rock, and made the Dragons, huge creatures that resembled the Dragon legends of Old Earth.
These Dragons were to be the saviors of Pern. Telepathically bonding at birth to certain humans, the dragons could fly, breath fire after chewing the 'firestone', and were capable of teleporting vast distances with only a thought. The great creatures rose to fight the thread, flaming it form the skies.
Time went on and the thread stopped falling. Eventually a pattern established itself. Thread would fall for some fifty turns as the Red Star brought it into the path of Pern, and then there would be two hundred turns of peace where thread did not fall.
It was towards the end of the third such Pass that a small group of Riders lead by Mirai, Gold Aurath's rider, traveled to the western continent, wishing to escape the increasingly un-accepting nature of the Weyrs and Holds of the Northern Continent. The Weyr they formed in a double crater on the Coast was named Aura Weyr, after Golden Aurath.
Time marched on, and by the Fourth Pass, Aurath and her renegades had been all but forgotten. The Riders of Aura Weyr began to sneak their way into the Northern Weyrs, looking out of those who didn't really fit in and recruiting them to the Weyr in the West.
The turns passed fairly peacefully, and soon the Fourth Pass was over and then the Fourth Interval. A full Turn into the fifth Pass a terrible accident in Threadfall killed off most of the Weyr's fighting dragons. The few who are left are struggling to re-build, and the Spy wing has doubled its recruitment efforts in an attempt to build up numbers. The Weyr's Senior Queen, Black Gold Ryuuth, shows signs of getting ready to rise to mate, despite the loss of her previous weyrmate in the Fall.
Aura Weyr is now open and recruiting! We are currently looking for:
New Members.
Candidates: Hatching coming very soon. Great time to start character development.
Riders: Brown, Blue, and Green are always welcome. Still in need of some Bronzes.
Flight is coming soon: Weyrleader position is still open and up for grabs.
All colors of fire lizards are available at this moment. Get them while they're hot!
Dragon Colors:
All canon colors: Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, Green. Some dragons are considered black or white because their shades are so dark or light. (happens in all colors, Ex: Black gold Queen right now)
Non-canon colors (Available only through hatching):
Red - Red Dragons Are perhaps one of the most striking of the Aura Native Colours. Their base Shades run From Pale orangey reds, to dark brown reds. Their extremities usually shade to gold, and they often have other markings in the same shade. They are fertile females and have a strong mothering instinct. Reds are capable of Flaming, but usually join the Queen's Wing with flame throwers as chewing Firestone greatly reduces the size of their next clutch. They rise twice per turn, but don't always produce a clutch on their second flight. In size and rank they are similar to a Brown.
Bloodstone - Bloodstone dragons have green hides with red markings that range form the very obvious to subtle flecking. They come in both male and female. Female Bloodstones are fertile females who are capable of chewing firestone to produce flame, though clutches tend to be smaller if a bloodstone has chewed firestone in the two months before rising. They rise three times a turn, but usually only clutch once during that time. Male bloodstones are a curious case, as they are only capable of producing a clutch with another bloodstone. In terms of Size and rank they are similar to green dragons, with the males typically being slightly smaller than the females.
